Chippewa County Recycling Center has been serving Chippewa County since 1989. Operated by Northern Transitions Inc., with oversight by the Chippewa County Recycling Board.

Drop sites are located in Bay Mills, Brimley, Bruce, Dafter, DeTour, Drummond Island, Kinross, Paradise, Pickford, Raber, Rudyard, Strong's, Sugar Island, Trout Lake & Hulbert Townships for your convenience.

Sault Ste. Marie Dropsite: Chippewa County Recycling Center , 1423 West Easterday Ave.

Drop sites are open 24/7.

Anyone needing assistance in unloading their car may drop off at our facility in Sault Ste. Marie 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the week.

Guidelines for Recycling

GLASS BOTTLES & JARS

  • Glass bottles and jars only
  • Colors: Green, Brown, White
  • Please rinse and clean

PLASTIC BOTTLES #1 through #7

  • Plastic bottles (all colors)
  • Please rinse and clean
  • Plastic shopping bags
  • Garbage cans, laundry baskets, toys etc.

METAL & ALUMINUM CANS

  • Aerosol Cans
  • Please rinse and clean
  • Clean aluminum Pie tins, Foil, and Trays

NEWSPAPERS

  • Advertisement inserts; please put these with your glossy Magazines & Catalogs

GLOSSY MAGAZINES  & CATALOGS

  • Magazines
  • All Catalogs
  • Advertisement on glossy & semi-glossy paper

CORRUGATED CARDBOARD

  • Cardboard with ridged layers between
  • Remove all packaging materials from boxes
  • Cut or flatten all corrugated cardboard
  • Include brown paper bags with corrugated cardboard

Office Paper

  • White & Color office paper
  • Carbonless paper (NO Carbon)
  • Fax and Copy paper
  • Envelopes
  • Junk mail

ALKALINE BATTERIES

  • A, AA, AAA, C, D, 6 Volts, and 9 Volts and Rechargeable cells
  • No Wet cells

Dry cell batteries only may be dropped off at the following local merchants:

  • Kings Radio
  • Parkers
  • Walmart

Waste Management of the Eastern Upper Peninsula provides curbside pickup.  You may purchase a bin from Waste Management for a one-time fee.

Curbside rules and schedule are as follows:

Waste Management will pick up your recyclables twice a month, the first full week, and the third full week of each month. Place your recycling bin in front of your residence. It will be picked up on the same day as regular trash, by a different truck.

Absolutely NO GLASS OF ANY KIND IN CURBSIDE MATERIALS

Household Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste collections are scheduled three times a year during spring, summer and fall as an additional community service.
